Jpg images of pure text only pages uploaded by the DPLA in 2022. The publication itself is not of historic interest for its typography or so old or historic a print for the scanned image of each page to be of sufficient educational value. The original full PDF of the book has been available at the internet archive since 2018. Fails COM:SCOPE. A volunteer wanting to examine a page of the text should examine it in the context of the book, not by looking at a single unconnected jpg image with an unwieldy automated title.

Scottonian

[edit]

All editions available of the Scottonian are available at the internet archive and have been previously uploaded as full pdf documents at Category:The Scottonian. These individual scanned pages have been uploaded by the DPLA* as separate jpg files without analysis of whether they have significant value beyond the text already in the PDF versions. Collected for this deletion request are blank pages, images of covers, text only pages and text pages with minimal graphics which if of interest could be cropped from the PDF using the croptool. Pages with significant illustrations or photographs have been excluded from this request, remain in subcategoris of The Scottonian, and are in the slight minority of scans compared to those in this request. These scans created as a result of mass uploading unbundled books are out of scope for Commons per COM:OOS and are not of realistic educational value.

Usage check: Found 0 files currently in global use.

File list

Comment not sure. I hit about a dozen pages at random. Out of those, File:The Scottonian (1916) - DPLA - 42ca7eae86c14aca4ee5008a1430d9d3 (page 76).jpg certainly contains an interesting illustration, File:The Scottonian (1921) - DPLA - febcb2fbf478fb06e55759f627098e58 (page 242).jpg an ad that would be worth having if we don't already have at least this good a copy, and the epigraph illustration at the end of File:The Scottonian (1917) - DPLA - 567d8c425f4c1855b5970f211f43ca53 (page 83).jpg is probably worth having. So, while I agree this is mostly chaff, some of it is not. I can see deciding to chuck this and let people extract from the PDF as needed, but I can also see keeping selected pages.
FWIW: the likely uses for this sort of graphics would not be Wikipedia projects: definitely not our style. But I can see it being of educational use to someone studying the graphics of the era, or of illustrative use to someone wanting a very retro look. - Jmabel ! talk 22:59, 31 July 2026 (UTC)reply
Looking at the classification again today. There's a lot of blanks and text only images which would be uncontroversial, we just need an easy way to filter them.
Routine running again but with extra checks it's slow, about 1 minute average per page. It should create a new and tougher list to post here later, more strongly limiting to blank pages and text only. -- (talk) 12:05, 3 August 2026 (UTC)reply
